Ugadi / Gudi Padwa / Cheti Chand - Saturday, March 25th 10:00 AM
Ugadi marks the beginning of a New Year for several Hindu communities including Telugu, Kannada and Marathi speaking people. While it is called Ugadi in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka, in Maharashtra it is known as "Gudipadwa". Ugadi is celebrated on "Shukla Paksha" (bright fortnight) of "Chaitra Masa" (first month) in the first season of the year "Vasanta-Ritu" (spring Season). It is customary to listen to the reading of the "Panchang" (Almanac) on Ugadi, so that one may know the predictions for the year ahead. It is also a tradition to offer "Ugadi Pachadi" as "Prasad" in Telugu communities. It is a mixture of sweet, bitter, sour, salty, tangy and spicy ingredients to signify that life is also a mixture of good and bad times and one must face both with equanimity.
