Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated to commemorate the birth of Lord Hanuman, the Vanara god, widely venerated throughout India. It is celebrated on the Chaitra Shukla Purnima (Full moon day on the Hindu Calendar Month of Chaitra). He is also called by the names, Maruti, Pavanputra, Bajrangbali, Anjaneya and Kesarinandan. Hanumanbecame a legend for his unflinching devotion and selfless service to Lord Rama. On Hanuman Jayanti Day people observe fast, worship Lord Hanuman as a symbol of strength, devotion, energy and intelligence. Devotees recite Hanuman Chalisa and Sundar Kand from Ramayana, perform Hanuman puja and get blessings.
